OK -- thanks. I mis-spoke when I said the camera was in manual focus -- that's a switch on the lens for the mid- to high-end Canon SLRs. The body is where you set One-Shot focus mode.
If I have trouble with the chevrons not working in the future I'll try the lens in AF. In the past with the lens ...

Re: Focus control with long lenses
Problem solved. The camera was in manual focus mode while I was trying to focus, and I assumed that was all I needed to do. But before I switched it to MF it had been in AI Servo. I went back and changed that to One Shot, and then went to MF and now the chevrons work, even with the teleconverters.

Re: Focus control with long lenses
I'm using the newest Canon teleconverters, 1.4X III and 2X III, and the lens is a new model. Everything works with them in normal daylight shooting and there should be complete communication between them.
But now I'm trying focusing with the same body and a 100-400 II lens -- no teleconverter ...

Focus control with long lenses
It's not the usual use here, but I want to use the software for focusing on stars for astrophotography. I'm using the Canon 7D Mk II. With the new Canon 400mm DO II, I can drive the focus motor with the chevrons. But when I attach a 1.4X III or 2X III teleconverter there appears to be no drive, or ...

Re: More magnification for focusing?
Thanks -- guess it is what it is, in that case. I'll check that preview setting.

More magnification for focusing?
I love being able to focus hands-off through your software, and have been using it for astrophotography, where good focus on stars is very important.
I wonder if it would be possible to have a higher zoom level -- 10x or 15x -- to really see focus critically?

Time Lapse shooting possible in B mode?
I'm using HR for night photography and sometimes want more than 30 sec exposures. I also want a set of exposures, so the Time Lapse function works very well with M mode and 30 sec or less exposures. Is it possible to shoot with more than 30 sec? (Canon 7D Mk II.)
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Shutter vibration issues?
Had time to try it and yes, I did have that setting wrong. Apologies -- it now seems to give a quieter noise when the shutter opens. Will try it with stars on the Astrotrac mount tonight.

Re: Shutter vibration issues?
I hadn't though about noise from the aperture. But for me there is a noticeable difference between HR and just using thee Canon Intervalometer -- the latter is quieter and for astrophotography makes noticeably less shake, which causes light but unacceptable streaking of stars. Same for the Canon 7D2 ...

Re: Shutter vibration issues?
Hope so!! It is the same with my 5D3 and I'm sure it is causing some camera shake.
Lay the camera down on a table to amplify the sound.
Keep me posted!

Re: Shutter vibration issues?
Had to find the disk and install it. Setting the camera to MLU Enable, EU behaves like the IV -- the first shutter activation raises the mirror (louder thunk) and the second one, that fires the shutter is quieter. When the shutter closes there is the louder thunk again as the mirror goes back down ...

Re: Shutter vibration issues?
The only idea I have is silent release mode. Does 7D Mk II have it? Can it be turned off and on independently of other settings?
It does, selected in the small LCD on top of the camera. It makes the noises a little less but doesn't change the fundamental differences with the loudness and sequence ...

Shutter vibration issues?
I'd like to use HR for Astrophotography, using very long focal lengths (400-600mm). The camera is on a star tracking mount and is subject to vibrations that can give slightly oval-shaped stars. (The tracking is steady – shutter vibration is the concern.)
