When HF first reads in a set of images it displays a greyscale image of the (calculated) focused part of each picture. Sometimes these look very interesting for creating a possible standalone picture. Is there any way to capture this as a tiff file? Or does anyone know of other software that ...

A few years ago I did an export layers which included (I think) a "LayerStack" tiff of all of the layers combined with the fuzzy gaps between. In this case it produced an interesting result. Is that still a function in Helicon Focus? I suppose combining the layers is easy enough to do with gimp or ...
