Re: choosing methods for stacking
Your thoughts are exactly the issue. If avoiding by choosing a different composition and/or shooting with a higher F number isn't an option, and fixing from other content in the stacked image isn't viable, another approach that would work for some situations is to create stacks with and without the ...

Re: choosing methods for stacking
I think the docs are referring to relative depth (height in this example). Consider the image fragments below with leads and pins that are some distance above a surface. The first two are using process B and C. In either process you may see halos due to lack of in focus information around (in this ...

Why is this DNG processing smeared and JPG not?
I noticed that stacking with DNGs in this case has significant smearing whereas the result from in-camera JPGs is sharp in comparison. It appears that aligning has not worked well. This fragment is towards the edge of the image but all parts seem to suffer to some degree. This was with C2 but B84 ...

What process does export as PNG layers use?
Images I'm testing with have a circuit board below clear acrylic, which evidently had a fair bit of dust. At realistic viewing size this is inconsequential, however I thought I'd test the importing as layers into PS and see if knocking out parts of the layers with the most infocus dust would resolve ...

Autorecovery?
Just had first glitch where Helicon on Windows hung during an undo operation while retouching. It was using a fair bit of ram (about 17GB) having loaded and processed a few raw stacks for comparison purposes, but there was more available. When it hung there was no CPU activity so I had to kill the ...

Suggestion: bypass delete warning
Loving experimenting with Helicon. I do find the delete warning frustrating though when deleting results, and couldn't find a preference or meta key to bypass; would be nice either to be able to disable it as a preference, or e.g. use the shift key when selecting the option to bypass (shift-right ...

Re: Quality Issues Photoshop against Helicon Focus
Did you experiment with the different algorithms? I tried my first stack of 30 images a couple of days ago of a product I'd made, and was initially impressed with PS despite it's slow speed; I'd shot on textured card and PS messed that up, with patches of blurred and in focus areas, but I figured I ...
