Re: Halos on frosted leaves
Yes - i'm learning that not everything can be successfully focus stacked, especially when there's large elements crossing each other, like a branch or leaves. The best focus stacking candidates are the ones that have minimal skinny or tiny things sticking out

... I select the substacks (right click - "Stack Outputs" and try to change the method or its settings, it will revert to the method/settings used by the substacks...
At least I have some positive results when rendering substacks e.g. with B and the final image with C (less halos and/or highlights).

Re: Issue with background uniformity
Hi Julien,
You can fix the halos by using method B and large Radius, 27 or more. By there is still an issue with background uniformity and in general with exposure uniformity between the shots. Try focus-stacking your images first and then process the result in DxO, not the other way around.

Hi,
thank you. I will try later this week. I noticed heavy focus breathing in the blurred areas.. so it probably can not be fixed...
Kind regards

Re: Halos on frosted leaves
Hi Konstantin,
These halos are typical and to some degree unavoidable when you have overlapping features in the foreground and background. Use the retouching brush, scroll through the source images, and see if you can fix this by painting the blurry area from one of the sources where it's in focus ...

Hello Joe,
Thanks for uploading the images right away, makes it easy to see what the problems is and experiment with it. The general solution for halos is to increase the radius with the method B, and in this case it works as well. Try radius = 25.

Re: Is the Fuji 80mm lens good for focus stacking
Pls see attached - any tips on how to prevent the halos ?
Try increasing the radius (examples in the guide on focus stacking parameters ). Also try different methods.
And also some of the small stems are crossing each other - what can i do about it.
Use the retouching function. Sometimes you ...

Focus-stacking and halos around foreground objects

In many focus-stacked photos, there are halos of out-of-focus pixels around the edges of nearby objects. I have found some ways to deal with this problem that may be useful to others.

Re: How do I avoid halos?
For some reason the pyramid function worked better for me. Of course the radius is part of it too, but I am only doing 20 now and it seems to suffice.

Method B vs. Method C for fighting halos
... look at the horizontal curved line at the bottom of the top center large area. C made both of these better. Not perfect, but better in both cases.
I was wrong. shutterbug was right. C works better at decreasing halos! Thank you, shutterbug. I am switching to C for images like these!
