most probably this effect is caused by protection system. If the exe file was modified by a virus or crack the program will behave then this way.

Check for viruses on your computer and reinstall the program.

Yes, principally it should also filter hot pixels. But for this purpose you should create grey (not white) shot, so that hot pixels could be easily identified by the program

It seems that alignment does not work properly in 3.10 version.

It is processed with some default settings. You can save the resulting image as 16 bit tiff and edit it without quality loss.

You can also convert the images first and then process them with Helicon Focus.
