Re: A major bug in Helicon version 7.6.0 Windows?
Does 7.6.1 solve this issue?

New HF version installs old DNG Converter
FYI --- The new version of Helicon Focus is installing Adobe DNG Converter 11.3 replacing Version 11.4 released just a few days go.
Should be possible to check the currently installed version of the DNG Converter, compare that to the version you supply and only install if newer.

Re: Saving as 16bit TIFF
Not sure what your source images are, but in In RAW-to-DNG mode, the stack can be saved as a TIFF which will have 16 bits/channel.

Re: Selecting important focus point in stack
I suspect your focus step width on the D850 is too wide. After a good deal of testing with this camera, a step width of 4 seems to work across a broad range of focal lengths, f/stops and subject distances. It may not be the most efficient in terms of number of frames, but should provide a result wit...

Re: Odd DNG + retouch + Lighroom behaviour
I notice that too, although in Adobe Camera Raw, not LR. I believe that HF creates an internal JPG for the DNG that comes form one of the original frames. In Bridge the retouched image thumbnail looks unchanged, but once opened in PS, all the changes are there.

Re: image appears to be damaged
I do not use Lightroom or any automated import/export. Even on DNG files that produced the 'Image appears damaged' notice, I was able to edit in ACR and import into PS as a Smart Object without any problems. ACR is clearly doing some king of analysis of the DNG file; wish it had a way to export a hi...

Adobe DNG in new HF version 7.5
Looks like the Adobe DNG Converter installed by the new Helicon Focus v7.5 release is one version behind. The Current version is 11.2, as of Jan 24, 2019. Easy to update … thought you would like to know.

Rendered file name 'bug' ...
With the [params] option, the numeric value of the Smoothing control is not part of the suggested file name using the 'C' method. It is displayed on the caption of the thumbnail at the bottom of the display.

Broken DNG
Rendered a 3 frame landscape stack of Nikon raw (NEF) images and used the retouch brush to clean up the final image. I noted that the retouching did not appear in the thumbnail image displayed in the film strip at the bottom. Saved the results to DNG. When opening the DNG in ACR, a 'File appears dam...

Re: focus stacking with the nikon d500
Most tools do not report the complete set of EXIF keys. Even the D850 itself does not. This is for Windows ... Get the EXIF utility here: http://owl.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/ Note: This extracts as exiftool(-k).exe … rename to exiftool.exe This is a command line tool run from a command prompt, ...

Re: focus stacking with the nikon d500
Just an aside on the shutter count issue...
The D850 has 2 metadata items: Shutter Count and Mechanical Shutter Count. Shutter Count is incremented in silent electronic mode, Mechanical Shutter Count is not. So Mechanical Shutter Count is what you should use for resale value.

Re: Panoramic Shooting
I worked a stacked panorama scene just yesterday. Standing on the left, at the base of a waterfall, I created a stack of the left side of the waterfall, then a stack on the right side. The left side stack required 1 more frame than the right side stack. Thought this curious at first, but the right s...
