My suggestions:

1. Allow any scale to be placed, by the user, in any of the four corners of an image. With only one location it can partially obscure the image.

2. Have a text field that is paced above or below the scale itself. That way you can say what the scale is inches, millimetres, etc

3. Keep the ability to place text as present, as well. I just find this very hard to line up with the scale.

At present you can add text to the image. It is an existing feature. Keep that existing feature. I need the ability to use text solely on the scale.
