Windows Vista Ultimate.

I'm unable to incorporate the 4.5 update. I get a warning box
"An error occurred while trying to replace the existing file:
Delete file failed; code 5
Access is denied."

My attempts at updating resulted in Helicon Focus being removed from my desktop and programs. I eventually found it again sitting quietly in my 'download' file.

Any ideas from anybody please. Thanks.

Access denied error can appear if the file is busy (opened by some other process). I would suggest you to restart windows and run installer again.

HeliconFocus.exe in your download files is most probably installer, 30Mb big. It was not very good idea to give the installer and the program the same name but it is too late now
