Really Really Big Tiff Files ...

I've noticed that HF seems to generate TIFF files that are about 54MB in size when I am done. Why are they so large? This is many times the size of my camera's raw files so something funny is going on ...

Thanks,

Art,

It is quite easy to calculate the size of the tiff file without compression.

For example:

12 mpixel image * 16 bit (2bytes per channel) * 3 RGB channel = 12*6 = 72 Mb

The RAW file is usually smaller. RAW file stores only 1 channel for pixel and normally has some kind of compression.

Thanks.

For some reason, I was under the impression that RAW files were uncompressed. I guess I was wrong ...

Thanks again,
