WeMacro Rail - Nikon D500 - MAC

I just downloaded Helicon Remote for use with a WeMacro Rail
All connections seem to work
A couple of questions:
Is there a video that shows how to use Helicon Remote with the WeMacro Rail?
It does not seem that changing the F stop and exposure time with Helicon Remote changes the f stop of Exposure time on the Nikon D500. Is this the way the program works - I need to set those parameters in the camera?
The first time I used Helicon Remote I got great focus peaking indicators. I tried to use the program a second time and they do not appear. Is there a setting to turn focus peaking on and off?
Does Helicon Remote calculate the step size needed based upon aperture? It doesn't seem to do this. Do I need to manually set the step size? It seems that the step size should be calculated based upon aperture and focus distances?
Does Helican Remote automatically set the default image to jpeg or do I need to do this in the camera? In my first run it did save NEF files but they were all dark/black - the aperture and exposre time I had set in Helicaon Remote was not reflected in the camera settings.
I clearly need some time with the program but I also would appreciate some help to evaluate before I buy.
Although I have not been successful it seems the potential of Helican Remote is better than the WeMacro solutions - I just need to know how to use the program.
Thanks
Bob
