Higher number of step should equal smaller steps correct?

I'm under the assumption that the more step you take when capturing the raw footage for a stack, the smaller the steps should be. I ask this because I have my FB tube configured to shoot 150 steps however upon testing it the jumps are much too large between each image.

Equipment
Canon 5Dmkii
Canon 100mm macro.

To start shooing the 150 step series, I made a point to start on the closest focus point and hold down the button and let the shoot run. As I watched the distance window on my lens I saw the lens refocus as it should but adjustments were large. I made it all the way to infinity in about 10 images even tho it should do so in 150. Is there a setting I'm missing? The lens is older and a little wiggly so I wonder if this playing out with this lens.

150 that you have configured into the tube is not the number of shots. It's focus distance between two adjacent shots in abstract points. If the distance is too large, make it shorter. If you think you need 150 shots but only get 10 shots now, make the step 15 times smaller - make it 10 and then do fine adjustment as you see fit.
