When shooting a stack of images of a flower, I want the flower to be in focus but the background to remain out of focus. When I run the stack, however, the out of focus areas generate artifacts as illustrated in the enclosed photo. I have been dealing with this by using the retouching tool to lay in the background from only one of the source images. I'm wondering if there is an easier way to deal with this?

It is hard to say without seeing the whole stack. You are welcome to upload your stack to our server as described at http://www.heliconsoft.com/ftp.html

Most probably retouching is the only way to get perfect result. The program tries to extract details and it does this for background too.
