Image

Nikon D70, AF Nikkor 70-300 f4-5.6 ED D, 1/4000 f11, iso 1600. Piacenza, Italy.

Post processing : noise filtering, saturation, sharpening, minor cloning. The image is a 50% crop from the original 6 megapixel image.

The use of high iso permits to freeze the action. Here, I used 1600 the get a shutter speed of 1/4000 of second.

I applied the noise reduction twice; the first time I used a quite light NR on the entire photo and then I "split" the image into subject and background and I applied a second, very strong, filtering only on BG.

Comments, critiques and questions are welcome

Have you tried to use smart blur in Photoshop?

It is supposed to blur background and keep focused parts intact.

I have only a demo version of photoshop 5 and I rarely use it (it is quite old and it does not allow to save the image). The full version is it far too expensive for me,and anyway PS CS wouldn't work on my computer (windows 98 ). The background is blurred because I used a long focal (300 mm), that has a shallow depth of field.

I used Helicon to remove noise both into subject and into BG and "photoimpression 4" to split the image. (photoimp.4 is a quite basic software that I get for free with the scanner ).
