Files not being saved to Nexus 7

Post by KBStudio »

Shooting a job yesterday, I was unable to retrieve the files for the client to preview. I thought jpegs were saved to the Nexus 7 Gallery and could be retrieved from there. Unfortunately it looks like none were saved to the tablet only the camera's card, Canon 5D Mark III.

Anyone know how to set this tablet correctly to save the jpegs in its Gallery?

The images are pulled to an arbitrary folder on the tablet (that you can set in settings -> Image saving). After an image is stored, the app attempts to register it in the Gallery's database. It is possible that the attempt was unsuccessful, in which case the pictures won't be immediately available in the Gallery (you'd have to browse for them).

Thanks Stas.

I tried again, this time going into Helicon Remote; settings/image saving/Folder for images and set the following; /storage/pictures/

Shot and image and went into the Nexus; Settings/Device/Storage/Pictures, videos

Google Gallery had no images. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Kim

An addition to my last post. My full settings in Helicon Remote "Image Saving" are as follows;
Folder for images; /storage/pictures
File naming; img_(counter)
Folder naming; year/month/day
Create a new folder for the new stacks; Yes
Download RAW images after shooting; Leave in camera
Download JPEG images after shooting; Copy to computer (I am assuming the tablet is the same as computer?)
all others are set to default

With those settings JPEG image should be downloaded and RAW should not.
We will test the app to see if we can reproduce the problem.

Thanks Stas!

How do you navigate on a Nexus 7 tablet? This may be a really basic question, but I am wondering if I just am not looking in the correct place for the jpegs.

downloaded ES File Explorer for Android. Found the folder created, I think, by Helicon Remote but it was empty. I had shot at least two dozen images. All were on the CF card but no jpegs.

Unless you've changed the settings in the last few days, the images should be in /storage/pictures/<subfolder name with a date>.
You can also press the "..." button in the image saving settings, in the "Folder for images" line, and select a new root folder to be absolutely sure this is where the images should be.

Also, it seems that there was, in fact, a problem with image storage management with Canon cameras, we've fixed it just now and are going to release the new version soon. I'm not entirely sure this is the same problem you're experiencing, but it's quite likely.

Thanks again Stas. I will run another test today. Looking forward to the update.

Helicon Remote is great for our "on location" work. Appreciate your effort.

Stas, I figured out what I was doing wrong. I have all my Canon cameras set to only create RAW files. So in using Helicon Remote to only import JPEGs to the computer, it had nothing to import as the camera was not creating one. So by changing the camera settings to RAW + JPEG, Helicon Remote created a folder and imported the camera created JPEG which was easily viewed with the Nexus 7s Gallery. Problem solved. Software is and was operating correctly. Just the operator who was not!

Thanks
