d7200 and video

Post by jwburley »

When I connect my d7200 everything seems to work except video. I get a “camera error; the program detected error while communicating with the camera.”

Any suggestions? A setting on the camera I have missed perhaps?

Quite possibly, but I wouldn't know which one. No one has reported this issue yet and we don't have a D7200. Isn't there a switch for still shooting / video?

I've tried with the switch in both positions. And I've tried it on my Samsung S4 phone and my Nexus tablet with the same results. I don't think it's a camera thing because the Windows version works perfectly.

So Helicon Remote works on Windows, but not on Android? That's weird. Please reproduce the problem on Android and submit a bug report (menu - Feedback - Report a bug), and then do the same on Windows and send a report (menu - Help - Report a bug).

Has anyone had any luck getting the video recording to work on the D7200.
I tried with my Samsung Galaxy 4 and Sony Xperia Z2, both android. Everything works except when I press start video recording the app just locks up. In both cases I was cable connected.

I also tried wirelessly with an iPad as I do not have a cable. When I tried to record video I just got ah message saying this function is not available for your camera.

I really want to use this with one of my android devices. Has anyone got the app to record video with a D7200. If so how did you get it to work?

Video recording doesn't work via Wi-Fi with this camera. It does via USB, but I suspect there's something wrong with the program and D7200 specifically fails to record video. Other Nikon cameras work fine (D5500, D800) and we don't have a D7200 so right now we can't fix it.

Stas, having seen this thread I tried recording video with my new D750 using wifi on Android, and HR crashed out after I tapped "start recording video". It works fine tethered. My D610 is also fine with both methods.
I noticed that "Network connection" in the D750 camera Menu had changed to "Off" after the crash so I am wondering whether this isn't at least partly a Nikon problem?

I honestly have no idea yet. We'll look into this at the first opportunity. Thanks for the information.

DSLRRemote has the same problem so it most likely is a camera issue.

I just gave it a try, and had no problem, though it insisted on saving on the SD card, rather than to the computer.

Yes, you need to have a working SD-card inserted in the slot. Once the recording has finished the file may be transferred to the computer and deleted from the card, if you configure the program that way.

So, you've tried recording a video with Helicon Remote and D7200, and it worked? Was that on Mac / Windows, Android or iOS? Wired or wireless? Did you use the latest Remote version, 3.6.2?

This was on a MacBook Air. Once I figured out how to start the recording from the Tools bar, it went very smoothly.
