The Main Purpose of the Rendering Brightness Slider??

Greetings! I'm a fairly new user to Helicon Focus. I've been using rendering to eliminate anomalies caused by insects moving during the photo stacking process. I think I know how the Brightness slider works, but I really have no idea what its purpose is. Is it just intended to be used to balance tone between the left and right sides? Thanks.

Brightness - makes copied pixels either brighter or darker to match the brightness of the output image.
