offbeat stacking

Post by denisg »

Hello, I use helicon remote to make jewelry photos
I use it for a year without problem.
with the same lens 90 macro sigma f2.8
mac os 10.11.6
helicon remote 3.9.7
for a few days, the area that I indicate as the closest point as well as the furthest zone
are no longer respected when I start the procedure
for a stacking of 7 photos to the infinite the focus of the first picture is shifted to the back and the last 3 exceeded the indicated area

I did several tests with different intervals

did you already have this problem
how to cure it

thank you

Hello Catherine
ty for your answer
I did a test with the new version 3.9.9
for the photo of a flat necklace slightly 3/4
canon eos 5d mark IV 90 macro tamron
on tripod
f11 1/100 iso 100
helicon remote gives me 8 shots with an interval of 20
the first 5 are in the sharpness area
the other 3 exceed this area

I redid a second test same position, I changed the interval to 10
HR gives me 11 photos
the first three are in front of the sharpness area, and the last one is beyond

when i come back in live view to check my settings,
the point did not return to that starting position
and he was out of -12

new test without touching the camera
11 pictures
intervals 10
the last 4 are beyond the sharpness area

new test without touching the camera and HR
11 pictures
intervals 10
no change

Does not really look like the problem of the app. Please make sure that the camera body is in one shot mode, not AI Servo or other ones, the lens should be set to AF. Also please try it on a different lens if available.

Hi Catherine
I did a test with the 150 macro sigma
that I had already used several times without having a problem
set to Af ,one shot mode , like always
intervals of 15
25 pictures
at the end of the ninth, the point b is exceeded

I upgraded my computer, I went to 10.12.6
helicon of 3.9.9

currently to be able to work, I follow the protocol
I decrease the interval to have as many photos as possible and by previewing the photos as I go, I interrupt the stacking when the point of sharpness the most distant is exceeded

Make sure you have range switch set to Full range, otherwise I'm not sure why this would happen. We have the same lens and never had this issue (with a Nikon D800 body, but the specific model of the body shouldn't matter either).

I am having a similar problem. Until recently, I've been using a Wemacro rail without issues. I'm now using a Canon 6D with a Canon 100mm F2.8 macro lens. Helicon remote 3.9.7. Camera set to One Shot. Lens set to AF. I'd like to be able to use the Auto mode in Helicon Remote but have been getting strange results similar to densig's. I've tried various lens correction factors to no avail. Depending on the lens correction factor, symptoms are that the lens will either start shooting way before the A focus point and/or way past the B focus point setting. Sometimes it will start at the correct A focus point but only shoot about 75 percent toward the B focus point then stop. I've yet been able to get a sequence of images from point A to point B using Auto with any of the tested lens correction factors. The only way I've been able to get the images I need is using Helicon Remote in manual mode. I've been shooting since the '70s but I suppose this still could be an error on my part.
What is the solution to be able to use Helicon Remote in Auto mode?

Thank you.
Regards,
Andy

hello,
I did a new test
with a 70/200 f2.8 canon L with a 12 mm extension ring
in af mode
on helicon remote
interval 50
38 photos needed to reach point A to B
at the end of the eighth I had already passed point B

I had no problem with HR before the last two updates, I think if I remove all preferences, any trace of helicon remote on my computer
that I'm descending from version
I would find a faultless use

What do you think ?
where can I find old version of the soft please?

So far we don't understand what can be causing this problem, but we highly doubt it's about the preferences or the recent updates.
Two things we'd recommend you to do, in this order :
1. Reproduce the issue (observe the early overshoot of point B), then send a bug report (menu - Help - Report a bug ; please insert a link to this topic in the comments section of the report).
2. Download and try the earlier version 3.9.5: https://heliconsoft.com/downloads/HeliconRemote3.9.5.dmg.

It makes no sense,
I took a break from several weeks of jewelry photos,
I start a session,
and no possibility to zoom in life view, to make the focus
I tried with two different lenses; with the same result
I tried with a 6d from a friend, with all my optics, everything works
stacking works, point A and B are respected
