changing bw images during rendering

Post by PhilS »

I generally use method B for rendering my focus-stacked images.

Sometimes, I get mesmerized by the changing lower b/w image as the rendering takes place. What am I looking at? What are the significance of the blacks, grays, and whites? What is the difference between what the program does and what those tones are, in the first and second passes?

Thanks.

It's the depth map being visualized. The first pass constructs the depth map (lighter shade = closer to the camera), and the second pass constructs the final image itself.
