Hotpixel removal via dust mapping?

Post by shutterbug »

Hello!

I've occasionally had problems with hot pixels while stacking RAW to DNG.
Would it be possible to create a feature similar to a dust map which would remove hot pixels during a stacking procedure? I think A simple black frame should work and perhaps this could even be used to reduce the sensor noise (though it would probably require more computational ressources, though I'd be fine with that).

Hello!

Yes, the dust map function also supports hot pixel removal via a black image, just as you suggested. It's only to remove stuck pixels, so make sure that the exposure is low so that regular sensor noise doesn't appear.

Noise reduction is a completely different task best done by specialized software.

Oh that's great! (Sorry for my late reply - and thanks for your fast response!!)
I'll give it a shot next time, that's really awesome for low-light and long-exposure stacks!
