Slow HF 8.2.14

Post by PerVindis »

I think HF has become very slow after upgrade to 8.2.14.

Rendering 68 photos (Method B) each photo 45 MP takes more than 18 minutes!

Hi, I have noticed this too with 8.2.14 - I compared it to 8.2.13 and the difference in rendering speed is night and day.

14" MacBook Pro with M2 Max over here too. Will be using 8.2.13 for the time being.

Reinstalled 8.2.13 and now the rendering time is 7 minutes!

Is that 7 minutes for the whole stack? Or per one photo in a stack? Is OpenCL enabled in the Preferences - Performance?

Yes, 7 minutes for the stack, and OpenCL enabled.

What kind of images are they - format and resolution? If they're raw images - what's the model of the camera? And do you open them directly in Helicon Focus, or export from Capture One or Lightroom?

It is Raw (NEF) files from Nikon Z9. The size of a file is 30,6 MB.
I use Helicon Remote to capture the photos and then automatically starts HF.
If I open the files directly in HF the process time is the same.

NB: Does HF run in Rosetta-mode - see attached screendump?

Have today tried with Nikon Z6( RAW) - same problem.

When shooting in JPEG Fine Large 6048x4024 or TIFF Large 6048x4024 the process time is very few seconds.

Upgrading to 8.2.15 has NOT solved the problem.

I also have the same issue.

Before it used to send 6 images at once to Adobe DNG converter, now it's one image at a time.
Were there changed made to things like Parallel Image Loading?

EDIT: maybe it's also to do with the Cache? Previously the files that Adobe DNG converter had already converter were still loaded and using other rendering Methods (A/B/C) simply used these cached files and it was super fast. Now it's just as slow as if it had to convert the files all over again...

@Catherine: Have you been able to reproduce the issue or find a solution?

There is something wrong with the parallel image loading, yes. It works the first time but not after that. We're investigating, but one of our primary developers is unavailable for another week or two, which is why it's taking longer.
