Re-stacking in batch mode

Post by clausgiloi »

Hi, I'm sure I'm just missing something, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to re-stack any one of the input stacks in a batch without removing the corresponding output image(s).

I like to auto-split and render all the images on my card in batch mode to see what I got. Then, I may want to re-stack one or more of the images with different parameters, or a user crop rectangle, or both.

How do you get back to the "input file list view", with the user crop rectangle shown and the stack parameters panel?
If I delete the corresponding output image these things re-appear, but sometimes I would like to keep multiple output images of the stack processed with different parameters for comparing.

Thanks!

Hi,

That is difficult, yes, I understand the problem. You need to un-select the current rendering result, but keep the source images so you can re-stack them. The best way I know is to change something in the rendering parameters - either change the method (you can change it back and forth), or move the R or S slider.

Thanks! I will try that and fingers crossed that the user crop rectangle shows up. Is it intentional that the user crop rectangle appears where it was last set in an (unrelated) image? Seems like it would be better returned to a centered neutral placement.

It probably is intentional. Imagine working on many similar stacks, shot in the same rig/setup. And if you have to adjust the rectangle for a different stack, it doesn't matter from which initial position.

Hi Catherine,

Thanks, just hitting the "Reset" button does exactly what I need! Seems like I should have found that myself.

That works, too. And you did find it yourself, I forgot that button exists at all. Do note that it will reset EVERYTHING: the method and the parameters.

Having some more experience with this, having the user crop rectangle "sticky" when switching to a new stack definitely feels like a bug, and can easily result in inadvertently cropping an image if not manually reset. It would be better to reset the crop rectangle to the full image area.

I understand your point, we'll think about it, thanks for the feedback.

What really makes it feel wrong is that the "Reset" button does not also reset the user crop rectangle.

Nor was it supposed to, it resets the stacking method and parameters only.

That may be, but it isn't good UI design... if the image shows a user crop rectangle that is completely unrelated to the image and there is a big "reset" button, the user will expect reset to reset the rectangle.
