.ARW vs .TIF

Post by ebonino »

I performed a 286 image acquisition of a Pseudobrookite crystal, using a Mitutoyo Apo 5x objective. I have calculated the stack with Method C (smoothing = 2) using the file in RAW format (.ARW from SONY camera) and its 16bit .TIF (converted from Photoshop, without compression LZW).
Comparing the two results, it emerges that the image in .ARW format is more blurred, while the image in .TIF format is sharper but has some artifacts (glaring?) in correspondence of some facets of the crystal.
I would expect to get the same result, or at least not be in the presence of these reflections.
Is it possible to get some help or explanation for this phenomenon?
Thank you very much!
