D200 NEF difficulty

The NEF files from my D200 open only as low resolution source files using Helicon Focus 3.51.6 (Mac), although they work fine after conversion to TIFF or JPEG formats. Is there a way that I can open them directly in Helicon Focus, instead of using this workaround ?
