Evaluating Helicon Remote with EOS R and EOS R5

Hi,

I'm evaluating Helicon Remote and happy with how it is working for Focus Bracketing when directly controlling the EOS R5.

When I connect the EOS R, no matter how many shots I set for Focus Bracketing, It will only fire the shutter once and then will not take another image - I have to press the Stop Shotting option to regain control of Helicon Remote.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong here?

EOS R firmware 1.8.0 (latest version)
EOS R5 firmware 1.8.1 (latest version)
OS Windows 11 version 22H2 Build 22621.1485
Helicon Remote 4.3.1 W
Connecting via USB
All Helicon Remote preferences default

Thanks,
Jay.

Hi Jay,

Please reproduce the problem and then send a bug report from Helicon Remote (menu - Help - Report a bug).

Thanks for the response. I've just had a chance to test again and have submitted a bug report as requested.

I had a very quick response from Helicon on this suggesting that the problem was not with Helicon Remote and to check that no other software was getting control of the camera.

I checked that nothing else was running that could get hold of the camera communications, which it wasn’t. Just in case I rebooted and tried again with the same result.

Then I tried my EOS R5. All OK.

I swapped USB cables between the two cameras. EOS R5 OK. EOS R still the same.

Then I tried a completely different and much shorter USB cable with EOS R. Success.

It was an issue with longer cable on the EOS R taking things just out of spec under certain conditions.

Thanks for the very quick response to the bug report.

Happy to hear you've figured it out! Thanks for letting us know what the problem was.
How long is the cable that gave you trouble?
