'Focus Pull' with Canon EOS

Post by Drumru »

I'm considering buying Helicon Remote - what I'm specifically looking to do is make 2 (manual) focus settings and then automatically and smoothly progress from one to the other whilst shooting video, ideally being able to vary the time that takes, i.e. a typical video 'focus pull' effect. Is that possible? If it makes a difference, I'd be using a Canon EOS70D with an EFS 17-55 f2.8 lens.

It is possible to manually control focus during video recording, but not exactly in a way you need. You can set points A and B (near and far), start recording and press the dedicated button to go from one point to another. But it is not at all possible to control the speed of focus adjustment.

You can download Helicon Remote and try it out without buying.

Thanks Catherine, that's really helpful - perhaps a feature for you to add in a future version? :-)
