Newbie question about stack

I am using Olympus focus bracketing to create a stack of images.
If I were do a focus stack manually in Photoshop, I would first delete images with unacceptable focus. Do I need to do this step with Helicon Focus?
Thanks.

Yes. You will still get a result if you don't do that, but in some cases the result can be better if you do. You can just un-tick the checkmarks against the images you don't want processed.

Images with nothing in focus are not going to contribute to the output. Deleting them will speed up processing a little. You may also want to delete some of the deeper images to limit depth of field in the output.
After selecting an input image in the list you can move through them using ALT cursor up/down. Holding SHIFT will select/unselect as you go and DEL will remove them.
I use the Windows version I assume Mac is similar.

It would be a small improvement if clicking a checkmark effected all selected images.

Thank you for expanding on the answer with all the useful details!
I'll add that you can select multiple items using Ctrl+mouse click and Shift+mouse click, and while you can't mass-toggle the selected images, you can mass-delete them with Del.
Yes, I agree that toggling should also work, I'll add it to the to-do list.
