Hi,
I am testing the demo of Helicon Remote, and I cannot get the software to start. Here are the symptoms:
1. I start helicon remote
2. Connect r5 mark ii, it shows connected.
3. HR takes a photo
4. Nothing happens, no buttons are functional.
5. I tried to turn off the camera, it says "Saving... remaining images: 1"
6. I have to replace my memory card to reset the camera.
Previously, I chose to save files directly to the PC, and then I uninstalled EOS utility - but this still happens.
I am using Windows 11
thank you
Canon R5 Mark ii cannot start shooting
Re: Canon R5 Mark ii cannot start shooting
Unfortunately I have the exact same problem.
I'm pretty sure it's due to a setting on the camera. Maybe someone will get in touch who has the same camera and can tell us their settings.

Re: Canon R5 Mark ii cannot start shooting
Please send a bug report after the problem occurs (menu - Help - Report a bug in Helicon Remote).
Re: Canon R5 Mark ii cannot start shooting
I'm also having th same issue on R5m2 with Mac version 4.5.2 M? . I had a thing where the camera was on elec 1st curtain shutter, and when helicon focus loaded, the image would freeze. On mechanical shutter setting this was resolved.. wondering what else needs to change to make it work? Also I see the Quality reverts to RAW + Large Jpeg even though Im usually on RAW or CRAW only.

Re: Canon R5 Mark ii cannot start shooting
Recently I bought a Canon EOS R5 Mark II (firmware version 1.0.3). The camera is connected via a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 USB-C connection to my desktop computer (tethered) that is running Windows 11.
Unfortunately I have the exact same problem as the topic starter describes.
I have a Sandisk Extreme Pro CFexpress Type B Card inserted in the R5 Mark II (128 GB).
I used all kinds of USB-cables so far, but started with an active cable by Tether Tools TetherPro Optima 10G accelerated tethering USB-C to USB-C male cable of 1.8 meters (6'). At the moment I am using the original Canon USB-C cable that came with the camera. Yes, it's short, but hope this problem will be solved soon.
All cables gave problems though. Why? One of them was 1.8 meter (active) and two were 2.0 meters (passive). Another one was passive and 1 meter long. Canon cable is about 1 meter long.
Even changing the CFexpress card for a slow Sandisk SD-card (128 GB) made no difference.
Also changing shutter mode from "Electronic" to "Electronic 1st curtain" or "Mechanical" did not solve the "Saving ... remaining images x" notification.
Also, setting "Image saving" in Helicon Remote to "Leave in camera", "Copy to computer" or "Move to computer", made no difference. The problem kept occuring while the camera was still connected to my desktop computer.
It feels like tethering via USB is the culprit. I just can't replicate it. It varies too much. I am testing my latest change. So far so good, but if tomorrow goes well too, I am more confident that this might be the solution.
I am trying to help one of the software developers to solve this problem, although my guess is that it's not Helicon Remote related.
I hope to hear more on Monday from the software developer.
Kindest regards,

Re: Canon R5 Mark ii cannot start shooting
I am experiencing a frustrating issue with the R5 MKII as well. In my case, I am using a M4 iPad Pro and I am being told by HR that the R5MKII is not a supported camera and I cannot even get further than that. The app is also crashing as soon as I try to submit a bug report.

Exactly the same problem for me. Helicon Remote freezes after the first picture and is not responding anymore. I can’t even create it access a bug report.
Re: Canon R5 Mark ii cannot start shooting
That's not the same problem, you should be able to still interact with the app and access the bug report function.
Please reproduce the freeze, terminate Helicon Remote. Then unplug the camera, reopen Helicon Remote and send a bug report.

Re: Canon R5 Mark ii cannot start shooting
I've had some luck with turning off all LAN connections for Canon in the Preferences menu in Capture One (whilst tethered). Seems to have allowed me to connect more regularly to Helicon Remote and shoot a bracket. It isn't super stable, as if I play with some of the other shoot settings (shoot fast preview or take picture) it can make the panel greyed out again. I have sent multiple bug reports to Alex, with mixed results.. but hopefully getting closer to fixing the issue.
Also, has the R5m2 been taken off the compatible list? I just looked now and it doesn;t look like its on there anymore?

Re: Canon R5 Mark ii cannot start shooting
Yes, we removed it. This doesn't affect the software, it will still work on the best effort basis.
