Problem Connecting Sony A7RIII to Helicon Remote - MacBook M1 and Galaxy S24 Ultra (Trial Version)

Hello everyone!

I have a few questions regarding connecting my Sony A7RIII camera to the Helicon Remote application. I've read that most of the information can be found on the forum, however, I'm not fluent in English and I'm concerned that machine translation might not accurately convey everything.

I'm having trouble connecting my Sony A7RIII camera to Helicon Remote. Initially, I tried to connect using the application on my Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (Android 15), but I found information stating that controlling Sony cameras in Helicon Remote is only possible via a USB cable to a computer.

I then tried to connect to my MacBook Pro M1 (Sequoia 15.41.1). After connecting the camera with a USB cable, the Helicon Remote application displayed the message: "Does not yet support the camera 'Untitled'."

Additional Information:

I am using the latest available version of the Helicon Remote application (please let me know if there is a specific version known to have issues) in the 30-day trial version and am only considering purchasing the full license.
I have granted all permissions to the Helicon Remote application in my MacBook settings (access to USB, files, etc.).
I have tried different USB ports on the MacBook and different USB cables (if that matters).
In the USB settings of my Sony A7RIII camera, I selected the "PC Remote" mode (if such an option was available; please advise on which USB mode should be selected for Helicon Remote).
Does the trial version of Helicon Remote have any limitations regarding supported Sony camera models or connection features?
Are there any additional drivers or software that I need to install on my MacBook for Helicon Remote to recognize the camera?
Are there any known issues with connecting the Sony A7RIII to Helicon Remote on computers with the M1 chip (Apple Silicon)? Are there any special steps or settings that I need to perform to be able to use this program to control my Sony A7RIII camera?

I would be grateful for any help and suggestions!

Best regards.

Hello,

It only works via USB, but it will work with a USB connection on any supported system - Android as well.
The camera must be in the PC Remote mode. The error on Mac is probably not for the Sony camera but for some other detected MTP device. If the camera already was in the PC Remote mode when you tried on your M1, the reason it was not detected is probably the system permissions. We can sort that out, but if you didn't want to use it on Mac anyway and instead want Android to work, then let's try that. Connect the camera with a direct USB C-C cable, see if Android itself detects it. If it does, Helicon Remote should also work. If it doesn't, insert a USB OTG adapter into your phone and then a cable (doesn't matter if it's a C to C or C to A adapter).

And no, it doesn't matter whether you have a license for Helicon Remote or not. This is a matter of establishing communication between the system and the camera, and once the system sees the camera, the app will too.
If the app still doesn't work but Android does detect the camera, send a bug report from Helicon Remote while the camera is plugged in: menu - Feedback - Report a bug.

The camera connection is successful now. The main issue was that "Smartphone Connect" was enabled in the camera settings – it needed to be turned off. Now, a new problem has appeared: the application still shows "Live View is off" and there is no live preview. I have confirmed that the lens cap is off. I have also checked the application interface in the "Live View" tab and there is no option to manually turn on the preview.

There is a "Live view" button to toggle live view off/on, but it will turn on automatically by default (unless you changed the preferences). Send a bug report when the app is in this state: menu - Feedback - Report a bug on Android; or menu - Help - Report a bug on Mac.

Thank you for letting us know about "Smartphone Connect", good find.

After many many attempts I finally managed to fix the problem related to the lack of view. I would like to ask one more thing, is it possible to speed up taking a series of photos because at the moment photos are taken approximately every 30 seconds, I use the original Sony cable and a decent adapter. Once with one attempt photos were taken every 6 seconds but I don't know why each steel has a different time interval.

30 seconds definitely sounds like a lot of time, 6 seconds is normal and what you should expect. The exact time depends on how many focus steps there are between shots. Send a bug report when you see that it's shooting too slowly: menu - Feedback - Report a bug.
