First of all, this functionality is available in trial, Pro or X64 version for Windows and not available in Lite version and for Mac.

You should load the stack, process it and then you can save it via menu\File\Save project.

The primary goal of this functionality is to allow you save project to be able to continue retouching later.

Seems like an annoying thing to miss in the Mac version? Especially if the retouching is time consuming.

Do you have plans to implement this for the Mac?
