There does not seem to be a way to set the "File counter" parameter to a specific start value (to continue a series), other than to reset to zero.

I may use a tablet, laptop or workstation depending on where I am shooting. It would save a renaming step if I could set each to the next start number at the beginning of a session.

If this is correct, can it be added?

You're correct. We'll add the option to adjust the current counter value.
