My setup: Nikon D5100 with Nikkor 50mm AF-S f/1.8 and a ring light. Tethered to Macbook Pro.

Stacked in Helicon Focus.
Post done in PSE 13: reduced exposure, enhanced details using Topaz Labs Detail 3 plug-in and added saturation (red).
