helicon remote on galaxy tab 2 & android 4.1.1

Post by gravelin »

I try helicon remote on two similar devices
samsung galaxy tab 2 gt-P5110 one is runnig with android 4.0.3 the other with 4.1.1 (that's mine)
I want to use them with Nikon D800E
It works fine with 4.0.3 but with 4.1.1 I've just a message "usb connected" but I can't connect to the camera.

Is there any indication that Android itself detects the camera on the 4.1.1 tablet? Any pop-up prompt when you connect the camera and turn it on?

Are you using the very same USB OTG adapter for the both tablets?

Last test then: can you connect a USB keyboard or mouse to your tablet (instead of the camera)? See if Android detects that.

It means that Android is not configured to allow 3rd-party applications USB access. A custom ROM can probably fix that.

Have the same experience with my Galaxy Tab 2 Running Android 4.1.1. Tried it with Canon 5d MkIII and Canon 60D. Also tried it using a competitors remote software for Android with the same result:It is not detecting the camera. Regarding your suggestion of a custom rom: Do you have any suggestions about where to find one that addresses the problem. I am not sure whether the problem lies with the tablet or with the USB controller? Love the software BTW. Works great with my laptop. Just wish I could use the much smaller and lighter tablet. Attached a photo. This was my first ever time using the software. Works great with the laptop. Easy to use,

It's purely a software problem within Android. Not even a problem, it's just configured this way. I'd guess Cyanogen Mod ROM is free of this limitation. You can ask on their forums. Here's the link (registration is required): http://forum.cyanogenmod.org/forum/523- ... table-mod/

So an update. On the off chance that the USB support problem was with the OEM USB connector I ordered an aftermarket connector. Wow, it works and connects just like it is supposed to. I ordered PPA Int'l Samsung Tab & Tab 2 connection kit through Amazon. Will not need to lug my laptop around out in the field-I am a happy camper!

Ah! So you weren't using OTG adapter in the first place.
