Nikon D800 remote control and HDMI output

Hi,

Is it possible to remotely control a Nikon D800 using the USB port while a the same time record video from the HDMI port?

No idea. It depends on whether the camera keeps streaming the picture through HDMI while controlled remotely. Why don't you just try?

Seems like the D800 disables the HDMI feed as soon as the USB is connected. I wonder if there is anyway around this software wise?

I wonder why Nikon decided to switch off the HDMI port when the USB connection is established?

No idea. Because it's not needed since you can pull live view image over USB (which is precisely what Remote does)? Disable HDMI circuitry to save power? Whatever the reason is, we can't do anything about it.
