HR and Nextbook 8SE

Post by Zain »

Hello,

I installed Helicon Remote on my Nextbook 8SE to use with my D7000. Unfortunately, it does not detect my camera. I would think it would work as my tablet does support OTG as I can plug in a USB Thumb drive with no problems.

Any help, tips or suggestions?

TIA,

Zain

Okay, I finally got it with the help of Alex here and many hours of research and trial and error. To start, here is what I got;

Nextbook Premium 8 SE with AML8726-M3 Cortex A9 running ICS 4.0.3

I rooted using the zip file located at the forum post linked just below this paragraph. Unzip, then place the contents of the folder to the root of your external SD card. This means you will have four items in the root of your SD Card...DO NOT UNZIP THE OTHER FILE!!! Power off your device then hold the volume down (-) button while turning the power button on. It will automatically root it for you, just wait a minute. Forum Post... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpos ... stcount=42

Next, download es file explorer apk and install it. Your tablet knows how to hand APK files, so don't worry about not knowing how to install it, it will prompt you. I got my copy from the url here... http://www.appsapk.com/es-file-explorer/

Open the file explorer and navigate to /system/etc/permissions/ and create a new text file named (without the quotes) "android.hardware.usb.host.xml"

***IMPORTANT -- use the es file text editor to edit these files, the regular text editor WILL NOT SAVE YOUR CHANGES!***

That file you just created, put in the following;

Code: Select all

<permissions>
    feature name="android.hardware.usb.host" />
</permissions>
Save it, then, in the same directory, open up the [should be very last] file named "tablet_core_hardware.xml" and add a new line containing the code below;

***Make sure you put it in between the bracketed words <permissions> and </permissions>...you will see other lines similar to the one you are putting in***

Code: Select all

<feature name="android.hardware.usb.host" />
Restart your budget tablet and voila, your tablet now fully supports USB Host Mode OTG!
