Galaxy Tab report

Post by Stevehus »

I have seen a few posts inquiring about working with the Galaxy Tab. I bought a 7in Tab and could not get it to work with Helicon Remote, or even test successfully. I spent many hours on the phone with tech support and even had them remote into my Tab. One specialist told me I had to purchase the Samsung adapter because it was an eleven pin USB cable (WTF?). I bought the Samsung adapter at about 4 times the price of other OTG cables. I did not work. Finally the last tech support person I talked to told me that apparently the 7in Tab no longer had USB hosting and tech support was not informed of the change. He said there was a way to set up USB hosting but he could not tell me what it was but hinted at a USB hosting developer's website. I wasn't about to screw with my Android operating system, so I took an OTG cable and flash drive down to both HH Gregg and Best Buy and convinced the folks there to let me a perform quick test on their tablets. When I plugged the cable into the 8 inch and 10 inch Galaxy Tabs, the systems recognized the flash drive immediately. I tried other brands with varying degrees of success.
I sold my 7in Tab on CL and now own an 8in which works great with Helicon Remote. I sent the magical Samsung adapter back for a refund.

Bottom line: the 7in Galaxy Tab 3 will not work out of the box but the 8in and 10 in will.

Thank you for the information. I suspect еру 7in Galaxy Tab 3 still has USB host hardware and may work if a fully functional Android image is installed (with no USB limitations).
