Focus image stacking

Post by kyleighterry »

Hello,

I am fairly new to focus stacking and trying out a trial of Helicon. Since I am new, not all my photos that are stackable are aligned, which I have managed to work around by aligning them (rather crudely) in Krita (like PS).

Anyways, sometimes it doesn't seem to work, and I was wondering if it's possible to use the source image retouching to retouch a different part of the resulting image. For example, let's say I have a photo of a butterfly with a wing in focus but the face is blurred. If I have a source image (that I used in my stack) in which the face is in focus, but it isn't at the same place in the photo as the resulting image (ie if you overlaid them the face wouldn't align), is there a way to add that in focus face where I want it to be instead of just the same place as it is in the source image?

Hello,

This is not possible in Helicon Focus. Also, you don't need to align the images manually, Helicon Focus does it for you. You can go to the menu - Edit - Preferences - Autoadjustments, and increase the horizontal and vertical alignment limit to the maximum. You can also enable rotational alignment (but proper focus stacks shouldn't need it, which is why it's off by default).
If even that is not enough - there is something seriously wrong with your stack and I recommend re-shooting it in a way that reduces camera movement relative to the subject.
