Contrast threshhold map?

Post by clausgiloi »

In that other stacking program, the DMAP output includes a step for setting the contrast threshhold.

The binary mask that changes as you move the contrast threshhold slider really helps to identify if focus banding is present, and I wonder if there is a way to get such a view or create such a view in Helicon Focus.

Thanks!

We have considered this function in the past and experimented with it, but eventually abandoned the idea. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll pass it on to the developers, maybe we'll have another go at it.

To expand on this: out conclusion was that effects with an absolute thresholds create a lot of artifacts. With the stacks we tried, we didn't like the result. If you have a stack where this worked well and can share it with us - we'd like to take a look.

Thank you for your response. It isn't the results of applying an absolute threshhold to the depth map that I'm missing, but rather the opportunity to see focus banding visually emphasized in a way that helps eliminate "failed" stacks.

With my shooting method, I don't have complete control over my focus plane, so I cannot guarantee coverage.

What would be really super awesome is if HF could detect focus banding and add it to the red-triangle-warning list on outputs when it exceeds some limit.
