Which MacBook Pro

Post by stevecush »

I am upgrading my MacBook Pro. I use HF for landscape photography so usually 3 - 6 files (occassionally 10). I have a fujifilm GFX so files are 100MB.

My question is which Mac Book option is best making sure that I have adequate power but not spending excessivley.

Options are:

1. 16 inch. M4 Pro 14 Core CPU, 20-Core GPy, 24GB unified memory
2. 16 inch M4 pro. 14 Core CPU 20 Core GPU 48 GB memory
3. 16 inch. M4 Max 14 Core CPU 32 Core GPU 36 GB unified memory
4. 14 inch M4 10 Core CPU 10 Core GPU 24GB unified memory
5. 14 inch M4 Pro 12 core CPU 16 Core GPU 24GB unified memory
6. 14 inch M4 Pro 14 core CPU 120 Core GPU 24GB unified memory
7. 14 inch M4 Pro 14 core CPU 20 Core GPU 48GB unified memory
8. 14 inch M4 Max 14 core CPU 32 Core GPU 36GB unified memory

Too much choice.

Appreciate any advice?

Hi Steve,

Performance-wise any of these will do great (more than enough for your task, or pretty much all tasks in Helicon Focus). But consider the level of multitasking you prefer when choosing the amount of memory.

Thanks. Not entirely sure what you mean. Are you saying that if running other software in background at the same time that more memory would be beneficial?

If that other software consumes a lot of memory - yes. You need to have a certain amount of memory free to work with Helicon Focus comfortably and quickly, although with your stacks the requirement is low and 4-6 GB of free memory should probably be enough in all cases.
