Horrible green cast in Helicon Focus stacks

Post by wake689 »

Hi,
I have recently had a few instances of Helicon focus stacks having a horrible green cast - see attached. The stack was taken with my Canon R6ii. The in camera jpg render of the stack had no such colour cast and neither did any of the individual shots.
The codec used was RAW-in DNG out
I have updated my graphics driver and re run the stacking in Helicon focus a day later, after rebooting and still have the green cast.
Any ideas what is happening here?

(I have been unable to attach the picture "the board attachment quota has been reached")

Hi,

Please try opening and rendering any two images from the offending stack, and if the problem still occurs, send these 2 images to us so that we can reproduce the issue. You can upload them here.

Thank you for replying.
Rather frustratingly it has rendered correctly today.
I have used the link you provided and uploaded a .jpg exported from Lightroom of the offending .dng produced by Helicon.

Thanks, but unfortunately that doesn't help us, we need to be able to study the problem. Since it doesn't always happen, it would be very useful If you could figure out what makes it occur or not.

By the way, you should be able to attach images on the forum now.

It's happened again, with another stack, of 87 images, but trying a few pairs of the stack did not result in the problem.
I'll see if I can find a pair from the stack that reproduce the problem.

Does it at always happen with this whole stack? If you restart Helicon Focus and load the same images.

Yes, it does. I have closed Helicon focus and then re exported the same stack and rendered and got a DNG which I have exported from Lightroom as a jpeg and attached here

How big is the stack, can you upload it?

Ah.

I think I have located the problem with that stack. My camera creates, in camera, a jpg from a stack of RAWs and in Lightroom (depending on how it is configured) the jpg appears in amongst the RAWs and I was inadvertently including this jpg with the RAWs that I was exporting to Helicon. If I crtl-click to exclude the jpg then the Helicon stacking works correctly.

Sorry for wasting your time and your brain cycles and thank you for giving this your attention.

Inadvertently putting the camera created jpg into the stack is akin to putting a red handkerchief in with your white linens in the washing machine and has a similar effect :)

That's interesting! Do you get this tint if you render one JPEG with one raw file?
And thanks for letting us know about the problem, as well as the solution!

Sorry it's taken me a while to try this - yes, I do still get the cast with one jpg and one RAW.
What stopped me from identifying the problem sooner was the fact that of course all the pictures exported to Helicon from Lightroom are converted to DNGs so I didn't notice a .jpg was being used because by the time the jpg got to Helicon Focus it was a DNG, like all the other pics.

Could you please upload one JPG and one raw image with which the problem occurs? Doesn't matter what's on them as long as the tint is visible.

Not sure what has happened here? This thread did have several more posts, including the solution to the problem but they have disappeared?

I have no idea, I have not deleted anything, and you were able to post this one, so it's not like the forum is broken. Are you sure you actually posted, i. e. submitted, your messages, and they were visible after refreshing the forum page?
