Hi all,
I tried to use version 9.0.4 in parallel with 8.3.11 and to integrate version 9.0.4 as a plugin in Capture One.
Unfortunately, I did not succeed, because Capture One always opens version 8. I already tried “Reinstall plugin” in the settings, but the issue still exists.
Is there a trick to convince CO to use the new version?
Thanks,
Toto
HF 9 plugin not recognized by Capture One
Re: HF 9 plugin not recognized by Capture One
Hello Toto,
You can't influence it. Both versions will be found and then one selected by macOS based on some unknown rules programmed in macOS. The only way to reliably launch the version you want is to only have that one version in your system.
We'll see if there's anything we can do about it in the plugin.

Hello Catherine,
It seems to be the same issue on a Windows PC.

Re: HF 9 plugin not recognized by Capture One
Hello Toto, I see, don't know why I assumed the question was about Mac. On Windows it's deterministic: the lower version currently wins (by accident, this wasn't intended, but that's how it works). So if you want Focus 9 to run, it has to be the only version. What you can do as a workaround: stash the Helicon Focus 8 files, uninstall Focus 8 (so that only version 9 remains installed), but keep using the files - it will run just fine, there's no functionality that requires it to be "installed" (registered in Windows), you can still run HeliconFocus.exe from any location. You can put it back to Program Files too.
The files for the version 8 are in C:\Program Files\Helicon Software\Helicon Focus 8\
We're looking into better ways to handle multiple versions in the plugin.

Re: HF 9 plugin not recognized by Capture One
Hello Catherine,
unfortunately I had to reinstall Focus 9 again; otherwise CO didn’t recognize any version. But in the end it worked.
However, I don’t really see any speed advantage with Focus 9 — most of the time it’s slightly slower than the previous Version 8.
Additionally, I noticed that Version 9 produces significantly more artifacts than Version 8 when using the same settings.
Please find attached two stacks of the same files.
The result created with Version 9 is marked with “..._9”.
Best,
Toto

Re: HF 9 plugin not recognized by Capture One
Hello Toto,
They're not aligned the same, which makes me think the processing order is different. I'm assuming the set of source images is identical between these two results. If it's not identical then the comparison is meaningless.
If it was identical, check the sorting order. Un-tick Auto, select either Ascending or Descending in both versions. Do the results still differ?

Hi Catherine,
thanks for your reply.
You’re absolutely right — the sorting seems to have been the problem. Now both results are identical.
Thanks for your help,
Toto
