Portrait mode and Auto Focus

Post by Mortimer »

I am using Helicon Remote with an iPad (USB cable connection as wi-fi too unstable) connected to a Canon R5. I have 2 issues. Firstly, when I switch the camera to Portrait mode the image on the iPad stays in landscape mode. This makes it impossible to select Points A & B. I have tried to alter the setting in the R5 but to no avail. I am sure there is a simple option but I cannot work out what is is. The second issue is that when I select Auto-focus the on screen message asks me to tap when I wish to focus. I do this and immediately the focus square on the R5 panel shoots to the top left corner. i then have to use the joystick on the R5 to move the focus point down to where I need Point A to be. Again I am sure I am missing something here.
Any help most welcome. I did try and post on this before but it did not seem to appear anywhere.

1. With a Canon camera, you have to to take a shot for the software to see the orientation change. A preview will do. Just tap "Preview" after rotating the camera.
2. Sounds like a bug with setting the autofocus coordinates, but that's odd and there are no known known issues in that department. Please check that you have the latest version of the app (menu - About, should be 4.5.5).
Also, you can use autofocus to select the first point, but it may be faster and more precise to just use the buttons (<<< / >>>). After that, you MUST only use the buttons to navigate to the second point.
