control Stackshot 3X rotary table

Post by CRAZYEYE »

I’ve just bought a Stackshot 3X system and I’m struggling to get my intended workflow running.

My goal is: To use Helicon Remote to control the camera and perform focus stacking via the lens focus (without using the macro rail), and at the same time, to control the Stackshot rotary table from within Helicon Remote so that I can run a shot → rotate → shot sequence.

Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to make this work.

Is there any way to keep using Helicon Remote for focus stacking through the lens ,and also trigger/drive the Stackshot rotary table from Helicon Remote for an automated shot/rotate/shot process?

If this is possible, I’d really appreciate any hints on required settings, cables, or software configuration.Of course I could just use a stackshot macro rail with the rotary table without helicon remote. But in this case I would loose the comfortable workflow within Helicon Remote (big screen to define start and end points, new folder for every stack)

Thanks in advance for your help!

It's not currently possible, sorry. It's on the to-do list, but right now we don't support more than 1 axis (like the lens + the turntable in your case).
What you can do is not connect Stackshot to the computer. Instead, setup your focus series in Helicon Remote (using the lens), and use the Stackshot controller to rotate the turntable after every focus series.
Note that depending on your lens, you might run into focus drift after a couple bracketed series, because the lens is not designed to achieve repeatable focus positions (unlike a macro rail). Some lenses are much worse than others in this regard.
