Helicon remote exposure bracketing problems

Post by teamwindsor »

Hi,
I recently purchased the full version of the Helicon remote. I am using a Nikon d7000 and running the android version of the remote on a Samsung Galaxy S3.

I am trying to use the exposure bracketing feature in order to use the photos for HDR. The program seems to work fine in that I switch the lens to auto and the camera to manual as per the program. I set the iso and f stop then input 9 exposures with 1ev increments. I check manual or info and it all appears correct (from -4 to +4ev)

When taking the pictures it fires off 9 shots and stops, returning back to the screen that says "take photo". I close this and connect the camera to the PC as have chosen to keep pictures in the camera.

On the computer I do get 9 pictures but they seem in a random order of exposure. When importing the pictures to photoshop cs6 (sorry) I get several of the pictures with duplicate exposures (usually 3 x 0ev) with only about 3 different values in total. I thought this was a problem with photoshop initially but certainly looking at the pictures there does appear to be several pictures of identical exposure. I was wondering what is going wrong or if there is an easy fix? The manual and information button prior to taking the pictures appears perfectly correct.

A second problem I have is with the focus. I have tried to use the DOF feature on a small object. I brought the front and back into focus, setting the "A" and "B" points. The information said the object would be covered with 4 photos. I hit take picture but after 4 it just kept going. Each time a photo was taken the progress bar progresses by about 3% suggesting 30+ pictures. Again I am slightly unsure what the problem is as it occurs each time despite changing settings.

Otherwise I think its a great product and can't wait to see what it can achieve when I get these teething issues ironed out.

Kind regards

Managed to get it working.

It works perfectly when changing the release mode to remote. I presumed this mode was entirely designed for the IR remote (activating sensors etc). Got a nice range of -4ev to +4ev over 9 shots (in the correct order). Interestingly though it did take a 2.3ev and 2.9ev exposure, missing out 1ev (no idea why) but currently perfectly adequate for HDR projects.

Hello Rob,

What you describe all sounds very weird. Might be caused by some other setting/combination of settings having unusual values.
Ev steps may not be entirely uniform merely due to absence of exposure/aperture step that would give the desired value.
