Helicon Remote Android

I bought a new android phone specifically for use with Helicon Focus Remote as I don't want to be carrying a notebook or tablet in the field.
When I try to install HF Remote from the Google Play site is tells me that this app is incompatible with my device.
My phone details are;
Manufacturer: ZTE
Model: T83
Android version: 4.1.2
Baseband and Build: T83_T02
Kernel: 3.4.0-svn7949
Developer Options: Debugging capability - Yes

It meets and surpasses the minimum requirements as listed on the HF remote page!

The phone supplier can offer no suggestion as to why it should be incompatible and any help would be greatly appreciated.

It has to do with USB. Either it doesn't have a USB host, or its Android has limited USB support. In the former case there's nothing you can do, in the latter case a custom ROM with full USB support can solve the problem, but you might have hard time finding something that's been tested on your phone, as it's not a very common one.
